AN OLD DANISH FAIRYTALE   by Meirav Rath

An old Danish fairytale tells the story of the Snow Queen who lives far off at the north pole.
The Snow Queen had a magical mirror but it broke and millions of little glass fragments had spread across the world. Should a fragment of the magical mirror be swooped by the wind into your eye you should see things the way the fragments does. Each of the fragments contains a human emotion and each represents a different way of seeing whoever or whatever it is you look at. The fragments favor anything they are swooped into and both man and animal, dead or live, all can be under the mirrors' magic.

"Ugh, when will you have a case already Jeff? People don't even bother to come here for divorce cases and we used to have tons of them!!!" another day in the office,
another sessions of Martys' nagging. Jeff sighed and made devious plans that mostly included the whiskey bottle hidden in Martys' old desk.
Indeed drought hit the detective agency lately and it seems like it's been ages since anyone's' been opening that door with "Randal & Hopkirk (Deceased)" on it, Jeff sighed. Marty sat on his desk and sulked. He didn't sulk just because it was a time of boredom, he sulked because it was a time when Jeff and Jeannie would socialize more then they used to, more then Marty wanted them to. Marty had agreed to this turn in their relationship a long time ago but still it stung a bit. He still could see Jeannies' lost expression as she talked to thin air of how she misses him after Jeff asked her what she would tell him if he could hear her. Her words were so deep "I haven't smiled since he died", they achoed in his ears, Marty sighed. Oh what's' the point? He wished there were something that would make him forget it all.
Jeff got up and opened the window, staying there trying to drink his 3rd whisky glass pretending he's leaning on the window in his summer house, sipping tea or something…anything that isn't as scruffy as a broke detective draining his boredom in (what came to be) his 4th glass of whiskey. He turned on the radio to try and catch something nice to listen to. He caught the weather forecast, reporting the incoming winter with it's blazing cold currents coming from the north. That didn't cheer him one bit. Jeannie walked in the office, that cheered him. Marty watched them for a few seconds then turned to the window to try and ignore them, he knew he shouldn't but he couldn't help it. looking out through the window Marty gazed at the dusty city, the dirty old buildings and the far off parks, green but not enough to clear Martys' general feeling of "dusty old corner of the town". Jeff was pouring his 5th glass, pretending it's his first, when a sudden gush of cold air stormed through the window. The blazing cold stream swooped a few pages off the messy desks, ruined Jeannies' new hairstyle and blew all the hairs off of Jeffs' well-covered bald spot. They both sighed, Jeff looked back to see Marty, unchanged by the wind, still leaning on the window edge. Marty couldn't feel the cold wind and he didn't want to look back to see if Jeannie was wearing one of her extremely light skimpy skirts that would lift up in such winds, he stared out sulkingly.
The cold wind didn't really represent the days' weather well, thought Marty, the sun was shining and the sky was nearly cloud free. He followed the suns' rays with his eyes from the sky and on the building and their windows that reflected the suns' shining. He followed the rays from the sky to the bright red on the body of a kite someone flew in the far off park, he followed the rays 'till the hit the green-green grass of the far off park. He watched how slowly, when he really looked at it this way the dusty old part of town was a shiny, shimmery, mosaic of things that reflected the suns' rays in a beautiful, colorful way. Martys' heart leaped in his chest with happiness at this amazing sight, a silly smile spread on his face. He turned around to see the door of the office close and Jeff drinking his now 7th glass. The suns' wonderful rays didn't manage to sneak into the messy office but Marty still found the room wonderful. He took some steps in, looking at things when he saw gray old Jeff staring the empty bottle of whiskey. Marty sniggered at him, Jeffs' face through the bottle looked twisted and funny. Jeff just realized he finished Martys' whiskey and he just knew he'll get a long lecture about this, like he got a long lecture every time he drove Martys' car too fast or did anything in anyway that wasn't Martys' way. He put the bottle away and awaited his punishment. Instead Marty just stood in the rooms' center, following him with his most childish grin, he stopped to stare at Marty quizzically. They stood there, staring at each other for some time then Marty broke the silence. "Hiya Jeff!!!" a cheerful squeak and a wild waving of his hand. Jeff was sure he drank too much. "Marty…I'm sorry I finished your bottle….." "Hiya empty bottle" Jeff was cut off by Martys' cheerful playfulness towards the bottle. He frowned at Marty and went on "but it's so bloody boring today…I just had to do something!!!!" Jeff sat down and tried to play some video games on the Playstation they had there. he tried, he did, but Marty drove him mad: every one-eyed creature Jeff was supposed to zap down was cheerfully greeted by Marty "Hiya creature!!!" and "See Ya creature" when they were shot down. Jeff turned the game off and turned to look at Marty who just looked back at him. "Marty man why are you so cheerful all of the sudden?!" Marty gave an innocent misunderstanding face and looked away to stare out the window again. Jeff got up, sighed and gave it all up "oh this is reticules, I'm going home". As he stepped out of the door he was escorted with a "See ya Jeff!!!" from Marty, he sighed again. Marty stood there and suddenly felt gloomy, he looked back at the office and found it no longer wonderful and amazing, something was missing but what?! "Jeff!!!!" his mind and mouth answered the question at the same time.
Breaking the law, and not giving a flipping toss about it, Jeff drove himself home. Locking the door behind him he couldn't keep Marty out. Marty kept himself invisible from Jeff while he sat in the passenger seat watching Jeff drive. At first he thought it would be funny if he watched him for some time then appear out of the nothing just like that. For a few minutes Marty sat there sniggering with childish enthusiasm but the more he looked at Jeff was the more he found Jeff fascinating. Just like the dusty old part of town had slowly shed it's gray old coat and practically unfolded its' shiny beauty to Martys' wish so did drunken Jeff, driving the car. Marty could never have detected it before but Jeff was truly beautiful, he had a manly way of gripping at the gear stick and the steering wheel. The little squint he did when looking out the window to see the traffic outside, his face when he made a turn or checked the traffic from the side windows. His thick neck, partially hidden in his jackets' collar. Marty leaned his head on the seat and stared mesmerized at his old partner. The magical spell Jeff seemed to have on Marty was like a leash to him, dragging him from the car and up to Jeffs' apartment. He was so mesmerized he forgot to cloak himself and was now fully visible to Jeff who saw him as soon as he looked at his direction.
Marty has been behaving strangely but now he stopped his childish behavior and looked very mature and serious….and sad. They were staring at each other again. Martys' eyes were big and they gulped as much Jeff as they could get. He was leaning on the wall staring when it finely hit Jeffs' drunken mind that Marty was indeed checking him out. "M…Marty are you alright man, you've been behaving strange since back in the office, what's going on?" Marty just gave him an "that's alright sweetheart" smile and kept staring at him, this time with a spark of an idea in his eye. Jeff wanted to stumble back and run off but his legs didn't want to listen. Marty was never any big emotions' man, he's been in his little shell since Jeff knew him as a kid, Jeannie and all his other lasses were the only ones who got any sort of attention of this sort from Marty. Marty knew how to be a good lover when he wanted to, spoiling and cuddling. Jeff thought of how Jeannie's sometimes frozen near him, how sometimes he doesn't know when a "Cute little Jeff" look and a smile turn into a "poor little Jeff" look and smile. Marty started walking towards him just when a tiny bit of his mind was secretly wondering what it would be like to be under Martys' tender loving care, Marty stopped a few inches from Jeffs' face. Marty stared down at Jeff, now looking at a drunken and confused old buddy, with his big brown eyes shifting back and forth between curiosity, fear, bewilderment and alcohol fumes. A gentle look was in his eyes as his head made the little way down to Jeffs' lips. Jeff felt a strange chilly feeling on his lips when Martys' touched them. Jeff was nailed frozen to the floor while Marty was kissing his lips over and over again and his shocked tired and drunken mind needed a few minutes of this cold yet terribly gentle and caring treatment to fully understand. Jeff tilted his head sideways and opened his mouth to allow Martys' ectoplasm tongue into his mouth, it was like having a liquidish cold jelly in his mouth but it felt amazing.
Realizing it was his mate Marty how knew him well enough to probably have a good reason for this sudden affection Jeff was slowly succumbing to the chilly lovin'. They stood in the hallway holding each other and kissing for nearly half an hours, just kissing very slowly. Jeff wasn't totally getting just how much Marty loved him that nearly-half-an-hour but he did. All along the kissing session Marty was amazed at how much he cared for the little man in his arms, he wanted to give him a little squeeze but knew he'd just go through Jeffs' body. And yet he could feel something breaking in to his ectoplasm in his groin area, Jeff was had an erection and the bulge was what penetrated the ectoplasm gently. If Marty had a heart it would pound so hard he could hear the blood beating in his ears, instead he possessed Jeff. Jeffs' body walked into his bedroom and quickly removed it's clothes, then lay itself on the bed to sleep for some minutes while it recovered the shock of possession. When Jeffs' consciousness came back to him he was on his bed, his body naked and spread and Marty was sitting at his side eyeing him passionately. Marty was indeed very randy as he gazed at Jeffs' firm body and straining erection but his eyes were still full of love. The possession had done him some sobering and now Jeff could finely think straight, not that he did.
He couldn't believe Marty was really showing him so much emotions. He knew Marty was worried about him when he was in trouble and loved him as a mate but not like that. Perhaps the shame and guilt of what he was ready to do in Hadell-Wroxted made Marty face his true emotions about Jeff and perhaps something had just changed but Jeffs' mind was just not into wondering what right now. Marty was blowing softly along his body, caressing Jeffs' nipples then lower and lower making Jeff whimper and shake. Jeff rose to kiss Marty again, they lay on the bed like that: one man dressed the others' stark naked, one man with his hand caressing the others' neck and the other moving his hand to explore the strange sensation of his dead mates' ectoplasm. While Jeff was still in a coma Marty discovered that their sudden change in relationship had made their connection so strong his powers were stronger then before. If he tried now, he would be able to move the big brown cupboard in the office, instead Martys' mind was searching for soft and flexible things he can maneuver. His eyes met the closet, he remembered some old jacket Jeff had back in the 80s' (or so he told him) one he used to impress the lasses with, it was an old black velvet jacket. The closet doors flew open and a little pile at the back of it shook and shivered as Martys' mind searched and pulled out the jacket, the velvet was still in top condition. The jacket flew towards the bed as if an invisible man was wearing it. The jacked hovered over to Jeff that was too busy staring at Martys' face, Jeffs' look changed from a smitten little smile to surprise at the sight of the old jacket and then to amazement at what it was doing. Martys' mind took the sleeve and rolled it around Jeffs' penis. The velvet was soft and sleek and it sent streams of pleasure all through Jeffs' body, he gasped for air, letting his head drop backwards. Jeff was letting go of everything: the boring life he started living, the confused relationship he had with Jeannie, the surprise of Martys' behavior, and just let himself sink into a pool of pleasure. The friction of the fabric against' Jeffs' erection produced a heat resembling one of a human body, Jeff was nearing the edge. Marty leaned down to look at Jeffs' expression of happiness and ecstasy for some seconds, then leaned lower kissed him deeply. The chilling kiss and the heat and movement of the velvet brought Jeff to orgasm, he only let out a few groans and sighed Martys' name then totally collapsed into sleep, tired with his climax and some alcohol leftovers. Marty was left behind to clean the mess. As he washed the sleeve of the old jacked and tidied up Jeffs' bed he slowly sank into depression. He looked at the sleeping Jeff with such disappointment, he wanted Jeff to stay awake to stare into his eyes again and tell him how much he loved him. He wanted Jeff to try and find ways to please him just like his did to Jeff but Jeff just laid on the bed all satisfied and smuged Slowly, like mud, a feeling of total regret and disappointment crept into Marty. He sat on the bed next to Jeff and sulked. He wished Jeannie could have seen what happened and would hate him forever, he wished Jeff would wake up, touch something metallic and get zapped harshly with all the static electricity he was charged with. As he sat there, wishing nasty things at Jeff he started regretting them, he loved Jeff so much, how could he wish him that?!.
All those mixed emotions made Marty dizzy and quit sick, in a ghastly kind of way. Thoughts of what this would do to their relationship at work if they went on with it, and if they wouldn't, and what would Jeannie say…..Marty began crying, he arched himself over Jeff and cried so hard his body shook. When he was finished his sobbed for some time then opened his eyes and rose to regain his old self.
He was sitting in Jeffs' bed, he remembered just what he had done to Jeff and it was like having a long nail pinned to your head very fast and very painfully. He couldn't understand why he just did what he did and he couldn't believe he actually, really did it. he also couldn't think of anyway to explain to Jeff what made him do it or think how things will be from now on. He sat there staring at Jeffs' chest until embarrassment took the best of him and he fled to Wyvern to seek for some answers. Jeff slept through it all to wake up the morning after, late for work again.
